NATIONAL FORESTS ACT 84 OF 1998

RELEASE OF LAND FOR NON-FORESTRY PURPOSES IN TERMS OF SECTIONS 50(3) AND (4) OF THE NATIONAL FORESTS ACT, 1998

The Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the environment gave notice of release of the land listed in the schedule to the notice, from being part of State forest land so that it can be utilised for non-forestry purposes, in terms of sections 50(3) and (4) of the National Forests Act, 1998. The parcel of Lowveld plantations and associated indigenous forest areas will now be incorporated into the Blyderivierspoort Nature Reserve. The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the environment no longer requires the land for forestry purposes.

THE PUBLICATION OF THE ANNUAL LIST OF ALL TREE SPECIES WHICH ARE PROTECTED UNDER SECTION 12 OF THE NATIONAL FORESTS ACT, 1998

The Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment gave notice of the publication of the list of all protected tree species. The trees were declared protected in terms of section 12 of the Act.

NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT: WASTE ACT 59 OF 2008

CONSULTATION ON THE DRAFT AMENDMENTS TO THE WASTE TYRE REGULATIONS, 2017

The Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment gave notice of the intention to amend the Waste Tyre Regulations, 2017, which was originally published under GN R. 1064, GG 41157, of 29 September 2017. Members of the public were invited to submit representations or objections to the proposed amendments, within 30 days of publication of the notice in the Government Gazette, to the Director-General: Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment.

CONSULTATION ON THE DRAFT HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE MANAGEMENT STRATEGY

The Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment published the draft Household Hazardous Waste Management Strategy for public comment. The Strategy is intended to be a basis for municipalities to build upon, when introducing collection of household hazardous Waste. Members of the public were invited to submit written comments within thirty days from the date of publication of the notice in the Government Gazette, to the Director General: Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment.

NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT: BIODIVERSITY ACT 10 OF 2004

EXTENSION OF THE COMMENTING PERIOD ON THE DRAFT MULTI-SPECIES BIODIVERSITY MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR VULTURES IN SOUTH AFRICA

The Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment extended the commenting period on the draft Multi-Species Biodiversity Management Plan (BMP) for Vultures in South Africa, as published for comments on 2 December 2022, in GG 47632. Comments may be submitted until 28 February 2023 to the Director General: Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment.
